litearcylogoThe statistics in Philadelphia are horrible. More than 50 percent of Philadelphia’s adults are functionally illiterate. Today, however, there are promising headlines that mayor Jim Kenney is ready to put some energy and resources into solving the problem. The AP reports today that:

Philadelphia’s mayor is making changes to the Mayor’s Commission on Literacy. Mayor Jim Kenney on Thursday will sign an executive order that is designed to make the commission more inclusive and will give it a new name.”

We’re not sure what the results will be from this executive order, but it sounds like a good start. For more information about The Mayor’s Commission on Literacy, visit their website and follow us on Twitter for new developments on this initiative.
