Monday June 12, 2017, 7:30pm The Painted Bride Quarterly hosts their monthly poetry reading at The Black Sheep Pub in Center City. Featured poets include Raena Shirali, Shy Watson, Angelo Colavita and Joe Roarty.
Tuesday June 13, 2017, 7:30pm poet Patricia Lockwood comes to the Free Library of Philadelphia to discuss her new memoir Priestdaddy. The book “tells the story of her unconventional upbringing and irascible Catholic-priest father.”
Wednesday June 14, 2017 5:30 – 6:30 Calling all Champions of Literacy: Tree House Books is holding a Volunteer Information Session. Come learn how your skills can be put to good use this summer working for an organization dedicated to fostering a love of reading and books into Philly’s youngest citizens. You can be a one-time only volunteer or a Tree House regular. Come to the info-session and find out the many ways you can make a difference.
Thursday, June 15 2017 is the Due Date for Philly’s Young Poets! The City of Philadelphia is looking for a Youth Poet Laureate. According to the call, ” the position was established to give one exceptional young poet a platform for creative expression and civic engagement through poetry. The Youth Poet Laureate will serve a term from September 2017 through June 2018.” Applicants have to be in high school and must be a resident of Philadelphia. What an amazing opportunity for a young creative. Plus there’s money involved. Get those applications in!
