Saturday April 29 is National Independent Booksellers Day! (Yeah, that deserves an exclamation point!) And since more than 20 different indie bookstores call the City of Brotherly Love home, there should be no shortage of celebrations going down this weekend.
However you choose to celebrate the awesomeness of the indie bookstore, Qwerty Philly wants to be part of the fun. Therefore, we’ve partnered with three fantastic bookstores across the city to offer a Qwerty Philly discount or giveaway for our friends on April 29.
All you have to do is mention “Qwerty Philly” at the time of checkout and you will receive:
- A Free Canvas Tote bag at Penn Book Center in West Philly
- A Ten Percent discount off your purchase at The Big Blue Marble Bookstore in Mt. Airy
- A Free Galley of your choice at Open Book Bookstore in Elkins Park
That’s right, just for mentioning “Qwerty Philly” you get the goodies.
But that’s not all that’s going down for Independent Bookstore day in Philadelphia. Many stores are throwing their own individual parties, while others have joined together to create the Indie Bookstore Day Project. Fifteen bookstores across southeastern Pennsylvania have created a map with information about each store and directions to each one. The goal of the project is to have people visit all 15 stores on Saturday April 29. There will be prizes and giveaways at each store and a grand prize (which includes lunch with a famous local author) for someone who actually manages to visit all 15 stores. Many of the stores involved will be staying open for extended hours to allow for someone to conceivably drive all over the southern part of the state on this crazy literary adventure.
Quite frankly, we don’t care how you celebrate this national holiday, we just want to make sure you get out and support our most treasured merchants of the written word.
